Costa Blanca Travel Guide

The Spanish island of Costa Blanca is home to the popular resort of Benidorm. The Velencian coastal town of Benidorm is located in the region of Alicante, Spain by the Mediterranean Sea. With an impressive population of 64,956 residents, Benidorm is the fifth most inhabited city in Alicante. This coastal town used to be a small fishing village until it made its mark in the tourism industry in the 1960’s.

Due to the resorts extreme popularity, the population over the summer period reaches in excess of half a million people. The island has an area that covers 38.5 km2 and a population density of 1,593,56 inhab/ km2.

Benidorm has three major beaches including; Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas which are all recognised by the European Union as being areas of very high quality standards, so much so that they were offered a Blue Flag from the EU. Like New York, Benidorm also features many tall building, some reaching in excess of 35m high which is why it has claimed to be the next city after New York with the largest number of sky scrapers in the world. For example, the 4* Gran Hotel Bali located in the Levante area, towers at an impressive 186m high and is one of the largest buildings in Europe.

Costa Blanca tourism

With three miles of white sandy beaches and the liveliest resort town in Costa Blanca, Benidorm attracts hundreds of tourists every year. Similarly, Benidorm North of Alicante also offers a good nightlife and festive-like beach culture.

Costa Blanca at night

Despite Benidorm’s historical past, there is little to see in terms of old ruins as such, however, hidden away in the area of Casca Antiguo you can see the remains of a 14th century castle which was built to repel Berber pirates. Nowadays due to the lack of pirates, the relic is used as a view point to experience the magical sunset of Benidorm.
